Every Day Pillow

There’s a painter named John who lives in the parklet outside my front door. He paints the roofs and cars and windows on our corner every day, all day, with only blue paint. Every morning, I sit in the sun in my living room window and look at the intricacies of our tiled fireplace. I think about John and how we are different and also the same. We spend our mornings observing our homes. He sees cars and trees and trains —always changing. I see my fireplace — green tiles, melted candles — always the same. I made this reduction print inspired by John’s paintings, thinking about what it means for our two bodies to occupy such different versions of home.
